The Union of Bharatian Agricultural Workers, or UBKAWA for short, is a union in Vilaspur, India which works to protect the rights and welfare of agricultural workers. As such, it's often the first recourse for many rural Indian laborers who are being exploited by their employers. Among other things, the organization provides an identification card with which these workers can declare themselves as members of the union. This card is necessary for accessing certain services offered by UBKAWA or affiliated organizations. For example, members use this ID to establish bank accounts with various banks that have donated funds to this cause geared towards improving financial stability among recipients. This card is a necessary requisite for obtaining a loan from nationalized banks. Other special benefits of membership include a monthly stipend, a food ration, and various government benefits. This card is needed to get certain government assistance from agricultural workers in need of medical treatment. These services are offered by the Rural Health Mission (RHM), which was established in the mid-1960s with the aim of providing comprehensive medical care for people who live in rural areas. This organization is funded by donations from both the government and international organizations such as UNICEF and Médecins Sans Frontières. The cards are issued by HM hospitals to eligible recipients who produce an HM ID card or a residence certificate. These cards are also used to collect donations made to RWA hospitals. For example, when a donor wishes to give funds, they can give their card information and the bank will send them a receipt through mail. The breakdown and structure of the UBKAWA is rather straightforward. At the top is the central governing body, which oversees all branches in India and makes executive decisions on any matters that might arise in union branches or in between unions and other organizations. This organization is headed by three members, one of which must be a woman. Decisions made at this level are carried out by all organizational units, from the national office to the union branches. One of the most important duties in the central government is overseeing finances, particularly that of bank accounts and loans, in which a large portion of these funds come from banks or other financial institutions. A union branch is the primary operating unit in Vilaspur, where most of these offices are located in various areas around town. This structure is overseen by a committee of high-ranking members who represent each region in the area. In turn, each branch operates with smaller units known as local unions, or local units for short. These smaller units are responsible for providing welfare services to their members, such as education programs. These include the "Community Development Block Unit" (CDBU) of the Sanskriti village in Vilaspur, which has previously issued these cards to people living in their area. The committee of this unit is known as the "Block Committee", and it makes decisions regarding various issues affecting this union branch, including how to allocate various responsibilities between member unions. This card also contains information regarding the person's work history. For example, if a person has worked for a certain agricultural company throughout the year, they would need to fill out this section with that information. cfa1e77820
